The World`s first Zero-Carbon City
Critical Airflow Controls, part of the Four Seasons Group of the UK have secured the second phase of the worlds first Zero Carbon Laboratories for the MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi.
The complex Laboratory pressurisation regimes and strict environmental conditions will be controlled by Phoenix high speed venturi valves, Self Balancing VAV Ability Fan Coil Units and an Aircuity Air Quality Controls System, Contaminated Exhaust and Cooling Recovery is provided by Strobic Fans complete with smart Controls and Variable Speed Drives.
The total Controls Package will Exceeds $5.0M, Critical Airflow Europe Securing a Package in Excess of $2.2M. The project will be managed from our new Middle East Office in Dubai.
The vast laboratory complex will offer total flexible research solutions allowing for fast reconfiguration of laboratory spaces without the need to re-commission and balance the system, the high speed Phoenix Systems and Ability Units will ensure that the tight pressurisation and Environmental regimes are maintained providing a safe sustainable energy efficient environment.
The MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is the region’s first graduate-level, research-driven scientific institution focused on education and research in energy and sustainability and developed in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. MIST lies at the core of MASDAR’S effort to develop the scientific and human talent required for the new clean technology sector to thrive. In September 2007, HRH the Prince of Wales accepted an invitation to take on the patronage of MIST.
MASDAR, also known as the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, is spending 22 billion US dollars on building MASDAR City, implementing alternative energy solutions in the region and making Abu Dhabi a "global hub of renewable energy. MASDAR is a comprehensive investment in future energy solutions and clean technology starting from design to research laboratory to mass deployment.
In 2008, MASDAR broke ground for MASDAR City, the world’s first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city. Electricity will be generated by photovoltaic panels, while cooling will be provided via concentrated solar power. Water will be provided through a solar-powered desalination plant. Landscaping within the city and crops grown outside the walled city will be irrigated with grey water and treated waste water produced by the city’s water treatment plant.
